Social networking has changed the way we communicate and share information with one another in today’s world. Various social networking websites are being used by millions of people everyday on a regular basis and it now seems that social networking is a part of everyday life.
Social Networking is replacing the need for face to face contact and its market is expanding gradually. According to IDC estimates, unified communications will be a $17 billion market globally in 2011, accounting for a growth of 38% compounded annually from 2007 onwards.
Due to fast development we are observing changes like substitution of email by IM, hard copy resumes to social resumes. It is cost saving option for companies and also provide easy way to communicate with people of same interest and explore interest of other.
However social networking faces some challenges also like management in virtual environment and it cant be denied that co location brings about more engagement

Interesting observations. One thing I’ve noted, as I’m running a virtual webdesign business, is that my employees are essentially social networked based — they’re all freelance, freed from working strictly for one boss, and are free to work for whomever they choose. I think as this pool of talent/employer grows, it will work for everyone’s benefit, creating a very fluid work environment.
